Beautiful app icons are an important part of the user experience on all Apple platforms. A unique, memorable icon evokes your app and can help people recognize it at a glance on the desktop, in Finder, and in the Dock. Polished, expressive icons can also hint at an app's personality and even its overall level of quality. The Volume icon is always there by default, along with the Clock display, which is actually an icon in disguise. Some icons won't appear unless you turn them on. For instance, the Displays icon won't appear unless you enable the Show Displays in Menu Bar check box within the Displays pane in System Preferences.
